Singin' in the Rain (1952), Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly
Hello you all, here is Jamie remains in sweet Kohler Hall on campus taking self-motivation strongly needed online classes. Here is my new room in Kohler: Dingle+Wholesale Food Shop+Otaku Collection. Pretty nice, pretty cozy. Quarantine life is going, it's good. I won't leave my room forever for real.

My name is Jamie Dong, I am a sophomore double major in Film Studies & Studio Art. Home is China and favorite character is Spider-Man. I decided to major in film long time ago before I come to Lawrence, and I am still hanging here with a great passion in film after get to know more about film like history and theory. As I said, superhero movies are the films that I enjoy a lot. The pattern of Hollywood film is the type of film I get use to watch. However, after acquired more knowledge of film in Lawrence, I realized film is more than what I thought. What I know about the meaning of "film" is just a little part of the entire film world. This situation did not freak me out, on the contrary, it just motivated me to learn about the movie world more than ever.
The way I used to read film mainly focus on the conversation between characters. If I can't understand what is the story telling, I will get bored of the film. However, now I see films differently. The "pure visual pleasure" is also a significant part of this moving image and sound based media. In the early cinema, silent film does not even have sound, if plot and conversation is that important, then why the time period before synchronized sounded film invented, people still enjoy movie that much? I'd love to dig deeper into the history of film world, which I never really pay that much attention in the past, then learn about how people see the film from the beginning.
Dots (1940), Norman McLaren
After getting a better picture of the "cinema", I hope I can get more inspiration and background knowledge when I am trying to create art by myself.

Jamie!! I think a lot of content in this class will easily be referenced with McLuhan. I too am very much interested in retaining more information about the historic side of film.
